The Slavic and Music departments invite you to a mini-conference on the Symbolist-Soviet occult, April 8-9, 2013, East Pyne 245 and Woolworth 102, featuring Valery Bryusov’s novel The Fiery Angel (1908) and Sergey Prokofiev’s opera built off it (1927).   Speakers will address Russian spiritualism in the early 20th century, its role in literary and operatic Symbolism, and the larger fate of artistic Decadence in the Bolshevik 1920s.   Events free and open to the public.
