Oksana Chefranova, New York University: "From Garden to Kino: The Cinema of Evgenii Bauer and Amusement Culture in Russia, 1890 -1917"

Oksana Chefranova is currently teaching at the Department of Cinema Studies, New York University where she is finishing her Ph.D. dissertation. The primary focus of the dissertation is the transmedial career of the most prominent and prolific director of pre-revolutionary Russian cinema, Evgenii Bauer, whose artistic practice, embracing amusement gardens, theater and film, figures as a complex and ubiquitous site of cultural translation in the context of Russian artistic modernity circa and following 1900. Oksana is a recipient of the Mellon International Dissertation Research Fellowship in the humanities and social sciences.
